Event details

Flatlands 300 is a fixed route, A-to-B, single-stage, supported gravel ultra through the impressive green outdoors of the Netherlands. You will ride across the deepest forests and the wildest heathlands, following our route that is unofficially certified as #FlatAsAPancake. And though it's not a race, your adventure will be tracked and dotwatched since we all ride with one mission: finish on time to join the Finishers Fest to end the day in festive vibes with friends, drinks and delicious food.

Start / Finish

Start - Landgoed Mariahoeve in Papenvoort (Drenthe) will be the starting location of this year's Flatlands 300. Registration will be at Wifi Woods at the camping site, where there will be limited parking place. Camp spots are available for Saturday night to start your adventure with a great outdoor camp experience. Further details can be found in the Logistics section.

Rider briefing will take place around the campfire on Saturday evening. There will be no additional briefing in the morning as we want to respect the other guests of the camp site with our early start.

Finish - The finish at Doornse Gat will have catering (included in the entry). This is available for registered supporters as well. Parking is available at the finish location. Camping after the finish is not included, but a camping sites are located close to the finish location. Reservations need to be made on own initiative and expense.

The terrain

Flatlands 300 is a mix of fine crunchy gravel roads and backroads through the hidden gems of the Dutch countryside. The province of Drenthe offers you some of our infamous flint roads and heathlands that you will cross early on during your ride. You will ride across several natural sites that show rich wildlife and impressive panoramas. The forest sections tend to be pretty adventurous with a mix of speedy gravel on hard pack surfaces and double track sectors that bring you deep into the forests. Dont forget the funky shell paths, these are too much fun to not include in our route. Last but not least, hills. Maybe we have some, maybe not. Either way we are Flatlands 300, you can be sure you won't be served mountains.

Cut-offs

Riders should be aware that Flatlands 300 is a long ride that requires a level of independent planning and a good degree of fitness.

As an indication we expect riders to ride at approx. 18 km/h on average in order to make it to the cut-off time at 23.00 on Saturday.

Strict cut-offs at Aid Stations 1 and 2 will be used to ensure rider safety.

Entries

Entries are opening on Monday January 8, 2024.

Entry fee: €139 per rider

Please note that Flatlands 300 is an A-to-B route, so riders should be aware that a high degree of self-sufficiency is required.

Logistics

Transport

As this is an A-to-B route getting to the start and back from the finish may seem like a challenge, but there are a few great options.

Both start and finish locations are accessible via train (plus some bike riding). The start at the camping is 12 km from the Central Train Station in Assen. The finish at Doornse Gat is 8 km from the train station in Maarn. Both train stations are connected.
Have your own support crew, who drive across and join the adventure while having a day out.

Camp bagage transport

Riders can drop their camp bagage before the start at the drop off spot at the crew who will collect the bags at the main entrace of the camp site. Bags need to be dropped off between 05.00 and 05.45 and need to be tagged with the bag labels. Camp bagage is then transported to the finish location.

Riders can drop an extra bag for transport to Aid Station #2. Use the Aid Station #2 label for this bag and drop it off before the start between 04.30 and 05.45.

Parking

There is parking available both at the start and the finish location.

Accomodation

On Saturday before the start you will have a camping spot on Landgoed Mariahoeve. Bring your own tent and gear. Toilet and shower facilities are available on the site.

No accomodation facilities are providing at the finish location, however, near Doornse Gat are several options for camping sites and B&B accomodations. Reservation is required and at own initiative and costs.

Compulsory equipment

Due to the length of the event, all riders are must carry the following items with them on the bike in addition to their cycling kit.

Bike bell
Front light
Rear light
Waterproof jacket
Spare tubes, tools, lube, split chain link and a pump

We also advise all riders to carry a GPS/Navigation device with the road loaded plus sufficient extra batteries/backup power for the duration of the event. Riders should make additional preparations in light of the weather forecast.
